Black Frost
February 14, 2008
This month’s featured artist is a young woman on a mission. She is not only beautiful, but she is also very talented. Her name is Black Frost. She is so beautiful, that we originally wanted to feature her as a model only. Frost is quick to let you know that she is an artist, but as she says, “because I don’t look like your average rapper, most people mistake me for a model because of my look.” In our interview, Black Frost opens up about her life, her passion for writing, her career as a rapper and her upcoming Mixtape, as well as what she looks for in a man.

Ms. Kris: Thank you very much for taking the time for this interview. You are a very busy girl. What has been going on lately with you?
Black Frost: [Laughing] I’m so sorry, I’ve been so busy.
Ms. Kris: So how long have you been modeling, and is modeling something that has been a dream of yours or is this a hobby for you?
Black Frost: Actually, I have not modeled professionally. I’m an artist and I write. I have been writing since I was 9 and I write in my free time. I write raps, movie scripts and screen plays. My alias is Beauty and the Beast because I don’t look like your average rapper most people mistake me for a model because of my look.
Ms. Kris: [Laughing] Wow, I like that. So you just sort of fell into modeling?
Black Frost: Yes. The most I’ve done would be my album cover or what you see on my Myspace page.
Ms. Kris: So what projects have you been working on lately? I believe you mentioned something about a Mixtape dropping soon, what’s going on with that? Did you do any writing on this or any interesting collaborations?
Black Frost: I write all of my own material as well as for others. My first CD was hosted by The Aphilliates and featured DJ Drama, DJ Don Cannon and DJ Sense. I was the first artist to have all three. Busta [Rhymes] was the second. My second CD will feature DJ Don Cannon.
Ms. Kris: How has your career as a rapper, the modeling and the writing affected your personal life? I guess I should ask if you are single or in a relationship right now or if you are a mom.
Black Frost: No biological kids, but I’m a mama! I am in a relationship now, but there are a lot of things that I’m putting off for my career. I have friends and family that get mad. My friends think I’m no fun because I don’t go out and all that, and I’m like, it’s not that. I don’t mean to not call back and all that, it’s just that I can’t do anything else until my work is done.
Ms. Kris: You mentioned that you are in a relationship right now, but I wondered if you could share with me some of the qualities that a man must possess and why?
Black Frost: Leadership, belief in God, he has to know how to take charge because sometimes I am so busy that I am all over the place and I need someone to handle business sometimes. Also he has to have a sense of humor and be a chill person because I’m a chill person.
Ms. Kris: You do seem like a real chill person. Do you watch sports? I love football and basketball.
Black Frost: I used to follow basketball, but then all my favorite teams got split up when players would get traded and everything, so I don’t follow it that much anymore. I am however a boxing fanatic. F-A-N-A-T-I-C. I love boxing.
Ms. Kris: Damn, like that? I’ll catch a high profile fight if someone’s throwing a fight party. What boxers do you follow?
Black Frost: I have 5 favorite boxers. My first is Miguel Cotto. He is from Puerto Rico and I have been watching him since his first televised fight. He takes his time and he has this one punch….I have to learn that in case someone tries something [laughing]. I watched his recent fight against Sugar Shane Mosley.
Ms. Kris: Go on Frost, knock the shit out of someone [laughing]. You are hilarious and slightly violent [laughing]. That Sugar Shane fight was close. Were you freaking out until the very end?
Black Frost: [Laughing] Yes it was close and I was cheering Cotto on. Other fighters I follow are Floyd Mayweather of course, Joe Calzaghe from Whales who hasn’t lost a fight in 10 years. I also like Damon Dash’s fighter Andre Berto.
Ms. Kris: Wow, you weren’t playing. You are all about it. Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe and Andre Berto. Hey, wait a minute, that’s four. Who’s the fifth favorite?
Black Frost: Oh, yeah I did say five [laughing]. I forgot Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. He’s actually a UFC fighter, but he is amazing. He picks you up and just drops you. Plus, he is a country boy and I’m from Mobile, Alabama so I like that!
Ms. Kris: That’s what’s up. Just snatch em up, drop em and keep it moving like, what? [Laughing] But seriously, Frost you seem like a straight-forward no-nonsense type of woman. What is one thing that you wish all men knew about women?
Black Frost: Well, real women (not skeezers, gold diggers or little girls), but Real Women want to feel needed, wanted, loved and important. Once we have that, we can be the perfect woman to our men.
Ms. Kris: Good answer! So tell me Frost, are you a romantic at heart? What little or big things do you tend to do to keep your relationship both strong and sexy while balancing your career? Or is that even possible right now?
Black Frost: [Laughs] I keep it real and express what is on my heart. I cook for my man, give my man massages and everything. But it’s hard for me to be the wifey sometimes because I’m so busy performing, writing and everything. But as much as possible I do the wifey thing.
Ms. Kris: Okay Frost, I want to get a little personal with you for the readers. You are obviously very beautiful and talented and sexy. Do you have any fetishes, favorite sexy things to do when you are in involved?
Black Frost: My fetish is using my mind and thinking of new ways of doing things.
Ms. Kris: For men, do you prefer Boxers or briefs? For yourself, do you prefer Panties, thongs or nothing?
Black Frost: Definitely boxers for men and I prefer thong panties or nothing but it depends on the situation.
Ms. Kris: Yeah, me to. You know, are a very mature 23 year old woman Frost. Tell me a little bit about your life like who got you interested in pursuing music, and what makes you the person you are.
Black Frost: I had a difficult life and it has made me a stronger person and, I guess, more mature. I am originally from Mobile, Alabama but I have lived in Atlanta now for about 6 years. My mother passed away from cancer when I was fourteen and I never knew my father. Just before my mother passed, we lived in New York for about 6 or seven years. During that time, my mom opened my mind to the entertainment industry. After my mom passed, I had to live with my aunt. When my aunt went to jail, I actually lived with my aunt’s girlfriend. I feel like I had to raise myself and help others. I have a sister who had a car accident and began going blind from her injuries. I have to help my sister out too because she has a son and lost her sight.
Ms. Kris: Oh my goodness, that is a lot for anyone to handle. Do you have any family out in the ATL?
Black Frost: I have my little sister, my cousin and my best friend here in the ATL, and the rest of my family that I was raised with and know are in Alabama.
Ms. Kris: Well, count me in. We are officially family now. You know what is interesting about you also, you don’t seem to rely on your looks and sex appeal in your work or do sexually explicit raps. Is that something your mom taught you or did you teach yourself?
Black Frost: Aww, thank you. Okay, we are family. When I was younger, I wrote explicit raps even though I didn’t even know what I was talking about. I remember this one time when I was younger, I was listening to a tape in my walkman and Lil Kim was on the track and I don’t remember her line in that song, but I was feeling it. Well, my mom grabbed my headphones to see what I was listening to and got pissed. She took my tape and broke it and told me she didn’t want me listening to anything like that. I was mad at her for that, but I get it now. My idols are like the hardcore female rappers like Missy, Eve, and old school rappers like MC Lyte. The looks and sex appeal are there without me trying to be sexy if a person sees that in me, but I’m about the music.
Ms. Kris: Well, good luck with your career and all of your dreams for that matter. It has been a pleasure interviewing you and I’ve learned a lot just from speaking to you. You have a beautiful spirit and a good head on your shoulders. I’m sure you will be very successful.
Black Frost: Thank you and so do you. I appreciate your positive energy. Sometimes as an artist I get tired or frustrated, but what you have said has helped a lot. I’m going back in the studio right now.
Black Frost is truly one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. She is the total package in my opinion and I wish her all the best. After all, we are family now so I have to look out for her. You may visit Frost’s Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/queenbfrost.
All the best to you all,
Ms. Kris
